What is your motivation to handcraft an instrument?
Cost?
The material cost for your homemade ukulele will be higher than a cheap series ukulele.
Quality?
Your first self-made ukulele will probably be worse than a series product.
Design?
You can design your instrument according to your wishes and needs. You specify the shape, scale, material etc.
Fun?
It is a nice hobby, a great feeling and a lot of fun to make instruments.
Feedback?
Even if your first ukulele should not be perfect, people will have a lot of respect for someone who is able to handcraft musical instruments.
